Belgium has not yet adopted a nationwide sanctioning framework. However, on 30 April 2026, the Flemish Government granted a second approval in principle to the preliminary draft decree on methane emissions in the energy sector, following consultation of SERV and Minaraad, and referred the text to the Council of State for advice. The draft decree is described as mainly procedural and intended to establish the legal basis for further implementing measures.
